4 Qul: Understanding their importance in reciting the Qur’an

4 Qul is the last four chapters of the Quran, all of which begin with “Qul“, or Say. These four chapters, Surah Al-Ikhlas, Surah Al-Falaq, Surah An-Nas, and Surah Al-Kafirun include immense significance to the literal reciting of the Quran; thus, precious lessons await the real believers.

1. Surah Al-Ikhlas (Chapter 112)

The theme of Surah Al-Ikhlas is the one-ness of Allah; it speaks of His uniqueness and the importance of monotheism in Islam. Recited more than once, this Surah strengthens one’s faith and relationship with Allah.

2. Surah Al-Falaq (Chapter 113)

This Surah has always been a plea for protection from evil forces and is requested to take refuge in Allah from the darkness and negativity that goes around. It reminds man time and again to rely on Allah for his protection and guidance in his everyday life.

3. Surah An-Nas (Chapter 114)

It is a complement to Al-Falaq in which seeking refuge in Allah from the whispers of Satan teaches that seeking Allah’s help even in overcoming doubts and fears that might challenge our hearts.

4. Surah Al-Kafirun (Chapter 109)

Surah Al-Kafirun declares how believers are differentiated from those who are unbelievers. It is a strong declaration of faith and insistence on holding on to one’s beliefs in the midst of opposition.
